Hi,

I just installed a RCR perf kit on my 2000 Xplorer 4x4 and the pipe is so big that the plastic rides on the pipe on a few spots and when I ride it starts to melt. ANyone know of a remedy. I doubt I am the first to put a kit in one but I am new to ATV's and don't have a clue how to resolve this. ANy help would be hugely appreciated.

THanks,

Hey Java~
Sorry, I don't have a definite answer to your problem. Maybe try that wrap that is made for headers and is supposed to retain some heat. But I see you're from Red Wing. Where do you ride a lot? Do you know of any trails down towards Winona or anywhere south of you? thanks.

Sure WIScrambler,

About 10 of us ride the Nemadji State Forest mostly but I called the MN DNR and they sent me a number of maps for ATV trails in SE MN. Notably the Southeast ATV trail in WInona and the Snake Creek Atv trail just south of Wabasha. Go to www.state.dnr.mn.us and get the number and they will send you maps for free.

Do you know of any in Jackson COunty WI???

Hey Java~
Oh yeah! Jackson county has all kinds of trails! I think there is roughly 100 miles of trails in that county alone! The trails are open May 15-October 15 and December 15-March 15. Here's a short quote from one of their maps..."One can go from Millston north to Lake Arbutus at Hatfield and from Black River Falls east to Pray." A lot of the trails are through the woods some of the twisties, some wide open straights. If you do go up to that area, take caution...there are a lot of dirtbikers that ride real hard and I think the county averages at least one death a year in ATV fatalities. I would recommend going up on a weekday if possible and have the trails to yourself!

Just 45 minutes SW of me!

We ride on county forest land down muddy logging trails. Most are blocked off when they are finished, but nothing a 4x4 can't climb over!

I am intending to hit the Jackson County trails this spring.

Hi java

I also ran into the same problem as you with my explorer, what i did and i know this is not the most cosmetic answer but i marked where it was hitting the plastic at and took a block of wood and pinged the pipe till it had enough clearance to stay away from the plastic .It cant be seen from the outside anyway.I know i didnt like the thoughts of pounding a brand new pipe either but if your careful you cant tell that it didnt comethat way It want hurt the performance of the pipe whatsoever..just a thought

I went to a go-cart shop and purchased some cloth that they use to insulate the heat from the driver. I wraped the pipe in the areas that where close to the pipe. It worked great. Cost $5 for 5 ft 3" wide. Give it a try it will work for you.

I didn't just try the pipe but I installed the complete RCR Stage 1 kit with Clutch Spring, Air Filter, Low/Mid Range Pipe, and carb jet. It really made a significant difference. I had two friends help install it and they rode it right before the install in 18" of snow and after that night. They couldn't believe it either. I rode it on the a tarred road and picked up about 7 or 8 mph on the top end and I used the Low/Mid range pipe for more low end snap. You cannot go wrong with this kit (YOu have to deal with the plastic getting hot, though)Go to www.rittercycle.com. If you install it, you will have to turn the first part of the pipe coming off the motor to align it with the new pipe. It will then touch your right front fender. You might want to file away the plastic about a half inch first. ALso, the pipe now has to sit on an ectrical wire harness and might melt part of it to. Check it before tightening your pipe. Good luck and you will be amazed!!!!
