Oil Change / 07 Raptor 700
#1
Just bought a Raptor 700 07. Used for a couple months, so much better price than new.
What is the oil change interval on these machines? Anything special I need to know? I have changed oil on cars, but this looks a little different. Drain on bottom, and the filter appears to be in the engine and you take off a case.
As far as oils. Should it be a four stroke oil? I have friends that swear by auto oil, such as Castrol Syntec. Any recommended oils? I know I can get Yamalube here at the dealer, and is like $8 a quart!

I change mine around every 100 miles or so. Give or take depending on the conditions.
You have a drain bolt on the Oil reservoir as well as the crankcase. The owners manual shows to just add oil to the reservoir were the service manual shows to add half to the crankcase and half to the reservoir. I do half and half but either way is probally fine.
I use Yamalube in mine. Some car oils are fine but many are hard on your clutch so I would research which ones to use before just adding anything.

I'd HIGHLY recommend getting the owners manual from Yamaha! They aren't expensive at the dealers. It will easily pay for itself down the road when you know the correct intervals to change oil, adjust valves, clean air filters, etc.
Or you can just download the manual from the yamaha.com website for free. I just did.

Thanks for the advice. I dont have an owners manual. How much oil to fill?</end quote></div>
It takes just under 2 quarts but like others have said I would get the Service Manual. It can be downloaded for free on some forums.

Changed, and was way easier than I thought it would be. Now how about the filter? Do you change this each time? I read somewhere every 5 oil changes. That to me sounds like a stretch. What would you recommend on frequencey of filter change?
