Default 300 4x4 help please! need suggestions/directions

I was hoping someone would give me a little direction and help here. I have a 2004 arctic cat 300 4x4. I was riding a couple of months ago and noticed it was blowing smoke and spitting oil dots on the concrete after I got back from riding. After, it sat a few days then it would not start. I parked it and did a compression test. It never got over 40 psi. I thought I blew an oil ring or something internal because I was running it pretty hard plus thought I might have got some mud/water down in it from doing all the mudding. So I tore it down and all gaskets look good, piston is good, no score on the cylinder wall, rings look all intact and valves seem good. What gives? I also noticed that it has a .5 oversize on the piston top. Guess it was already rebuilt. Where should I go from here? Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks
