Exactly. I replaced the cheap hose clamps with the screw on hose clamps, and got them good and tight on all air box and belt housing hoses. I have had my quad in alot of water and havnt ever had it take water. The Cats are pretty well sealed up. Also dielecric grease or liquid tape work well for the fan connections. My fan has NEVER blown a fuse, and ive sunk the front end in water.

ur 650 has a removeable piece of plastic right in front of the handlebars right? 4 of my friends have 650's and 700's and they run the snorkels there so they dont have to cut plastic. look up under the plastic, u will see a plastic piece that both air intakes run into (engine, and belt). un-snap the top from the bottom piece, undo the 2 hose clamps, and pull like h@ll. now u can put 2" elbows to the factory rubber hose, and run them on out. the belt exhaust is a lil more work, but is pretty easy. where at in fla are you?
