I have a 2002 Polaris 500HO, and I want to put a snow plow on it. My question to you all is, will my 500 have enough power to push a 60x17 inch blade?? I have mudlight XL tires that I will air down to 3 psi for extra traction and a EPI clutch kit. Also which plow is good?? I'm leaning toward the Kimpex click and go, but was wondering what you all are using. Thanks, Rob.

 

I've got the straight 60" blade from Polaris with the Glacier II system. So far I've plowed three times this year 10", 6" and 4". My '07 500 has plenty of power to push banks up about 4' - 5' high.

I put on some HD front springs and actually increased the air pressure in the front tires to about 7 psi. I also cranked up the rear spring tension two notches and put 60# of tube sand on the back. This setup has been great.

I used to plow with a Honda 350 and a 60" plow. That setup worked, but was a little under powered and way to light. Especially to push back the banks.

My neighbor also has a 2001 SP 500 with a 60" plow. Works great.

 

Same here, I love the 60" blade. Sometimes I even wonder about a 72", but it would never fit in my shed. And the Glacier2 harness is by far the best. It'll lift the highest and is plenty strong.

 

Go with the 60" Glacier or the Moose plow you will love it. 500 is plenty big, sand bag on the back is a good idea!!

 

I have the 60" Glacier plow and love it. My 400 in low does just fine. I like the Glacier system as it only takes seconds to take on or off but I'm assuming the Kimpex click n' go would be kinda the same. It sags a bit in the front so I need some better springs, and I still have the stock AT489's on it. Would be allot better with some different tires.

 

I have a Cycle Country 72" plow on my 04 500 Sportsman and a back blade is also a good setup for me. It clears a pretty good path, Plenty of traction and have not seen it underpowered yet.
I have chains on all four wheels. You probably wouldn't want them for paved driveways but most of what i do is gravel. The chains shred anything you spin across but work great on the ice.
If you did any mods, I'd put heavier springs up front. It made a load of difference for me.

 

A 60" blade is a nice match for the Sportsmans.

 

I also have 2002 SP 500 HO. I purchased the Glacier system with a 52" blade only because the rep told me it would perform better with 14"+ of wet spring snow. I have not been through a spring season with this blade, so can't say much about performance.

I've used it this season several times and the 500 has plenty of power. I have also used this blade to move some 3/4 back fill rock this sumer and had no problems.

Having the same exact ATV as you and using the 52" blade, I would have to say the 500 can handle a 60" blade IMO. Again, I haven't used in the spring but it did a very good job with the rock.

The Glacier system is so easy to use.

I have the Moose setup and haven't had any problems with it, I'm on my 3rd winter with it.
