Oil in the airbox
#1
This question has been asked before but cicumstances may be a little different.
A 2 hr. ride, foot & half of snow, on tracks. Throttle was 1/2 - 3/4 steady. Pre-ride, Oil was slightly below top mark. Post ride servicing found about 1/4" oil in bottom of airbox that obviously came up through the crankcase breather and filter. Oil down a bit but still within safe area.. No steep climbing or acceleration, on road only. Anyone else experience this?? How about your idea??

Good point TLC. Can't recall, must have been before winter but even then, the type of riding I do shouldn't have caused this, But, then again I didn't check and have just assumed that it came from this ride.

When was the last time you checked the air box before your 2 hr winter ride? It maybe from your previous rides?</end quote></div>
After giving this a bit more thought, it must have occurred on this ride cause when I checked the oil before leaving, it was almost at the top mark (Full) on the dipstick.

It happened to me, I looked in my air box and had oil in it a month ago, god knows when it happened, maybe it took 50 -60 hill climbs from the passed 7 rides to collect it?, I cleaned it out and there is still no a oil in the box currently.

A half a cup of oil looks bad in the air box but is hard to detect that small of a oil loss with the oil dip stick.

Yeah, I might be being paranoid a bit. There wasn,t much more than a 1/16 cup in the airbox, maybe 8-10 Tablespoons of oil, but enough to put a 1/4 in. in the bottom of the airbox. The drain was full of ice so there was no oil in it.
