Default smokin 185s

Hello my name is Mike i am new here and hope to get some help with a trike of mine . well to start out its a 1983 185s that i found on some property i bought , ive had it about 2 years now and just finnaly got all the parts i needed to get it to run , it starts right up 1st pull but it smokes very bad . i am new to the four stroke world so im thinkin its vlves or piston rings . My question is are the valves adjustable on this unit is it possible this could just need adjustment to stop the smoking ????? please help any insight would be much appriciated.

well lastnight i took the topend apart and man what a job that was , nothing like tearing apart a 2 stroke . anyway im gonna take the head to the local honda shop and have them inspect it, and i think the oil ring on the piston is toast .

well my optimizm bit me in the rear on this one , it needs a piston , rings etc. and a new intake valve and valve seals then it should be fine . the mechanic couldnt beleive it ran at all once he saw the piston . but all the goods are on the way and i found out something pretty interesting about the trike . its a 1983 atc185s frame with a 200s motor and front forks . atleast the size went up . haha

Cool Sounds like it will be fun once running
I got an 82 185s
All stock except for a header and SuperTrap

Good luck with it Mike.
I rode the same bike for years and they are a blast to ride. You will likely have very few problems with it after this, except the pull starters can be a bit of a pain and have to be opened up and fiddled with now and then. Easily done.
I loved mine. It would ride right on top of the snwo when when snow had a good crust on it and in the spring, summer and fall in the woods you can go between trees where no other quad can go.
You'll love it.
