Junk Yard Wars
#1
Greetings,
Have any of you caught the Junk Yard Wars on TLC Wednesday nights? Interesting stuff. Two teams compete to build something (a boat, a drag racer, an underwater breathing device, etc.) using only the stuff they can find in a junk yard. I suspect they "salt" the junk yard a bit because they always seem to find just the right thing -- especially working car or motocycle engines -- but its full of ingenious wrenching activity.
Last night they built off-road racers from scratch in 10 hours. A group of farm boys from Tyrone, PA beat a team of special effects experts from LA.
They have two lame commentators (try to ignore them) plus a knowlegable former champion off-road racer who comments on the progress and prospects of each team as things progress.
The best part is that they give each team a Suzuki ATV with a trailer to run around the junk yard and collect parts. Not exactly high energy riding, but still ATVs on prime time.

I love that show. Even though I am at work when it airs, I can catch the rerun of it at 1 in the morning when I get home.
I watched last season as well. They used Honda "quad bikes" then. Excellent, excellent show. Now theres good "junk" to watch on TV.

I have seen and like show as well. When I was in England last March is when I first saw it, I`m glad it made it over here. If you have seen the older ones they were filmed in England. The British commentator was much better.
Robot wars is another good one.

Do you guys remember a while back, there was a guy on the forum here who actually went to England I believe and competed in the Junk Yard war? I think he had something to do with building a raft or boat of sorts, then using an engine to race around a track in the water??? Does that sound familiar?
I can't remember for the life of me who it was, but I think he said it was to air in either Jan., or Feb., if memory serves. Would be cool to see that one!

i think junk yard wars is a neat show. they came up with neat ideas. but they sure do run those king quads really hard, like pulling a ton and a half car, they need to get a couple of shinny new rubicons with 27 inch vampires
just my thought

Actually I think the king is better suited to what they use it for in the show. They never need to go over 35-40 mph, and the king has so many different gearings (35 to be precise) they can drag cars/trucks and all sorts of crap around.
