Hanma 110 ATV...no spark
#1
Bought my daughter a Hanma 110 (SunL) ATV last year for Christmas and it's been an "OK" experience until now.
I suddenly will not crank. Turns over and over, but no spark. I have taken the CDI and coil to a local SunL dealer who in turn put the parts on a showroom model for testing. They worked fine. He said to check the wiring at the kill switch and on/off switch on the bar. Seems fine, but not sure how to "test" to make sure they ARE working properly. It's getting fuel and I've replaced the spark plug. Not sure what to do next???
The stator/magneto would not cause it to not crank? I thought it just charges.

You need to take a volt meter and check the current coming into the switch .This can be down by taking the switch apart so you can see were the wires connect to it.If your kill switch is bad it won't let the power go through to you cdi coil.If you don't have a volt meter or way to check for current going to the switch you can just replace your switch their not that much.

Well it looks like it's the On/Off switch. After closer inspection last night with a volt meter, the switch was reading 0.00 with the key on and when I tried to start it. And...As I pulled the probes out the ground wire just broke loose. I'll resolder it and go from there. Can't belive the wire just broke from the solder point with such light probing.
I've done several searches for parts for this thing...yielding prices from $20 to $100 for the same part!!! Any recommendations on reputable places?
Thanks for the info.

The switch was only part of the problem I think. I just resoldered the wires on the On/Off switch... I'm getting voltage there and at the kill switch out back. STILL not cranking! I pulled the plug again and turned it over....still no spark!!! What else could it be?
I'm beginning to think the guy that checked CDI and coil for me lied so I would bring it to them. I'm at a loss!

That sounds like a cdi coil problem. Did you buy this atv online or from a local dealer. If the place is local take it back and make them replace it for you.If they give you any problems just to them you will report them to the better buissness assc. Or you report them to your states Atorney General offfice to black flag the buissness. They wiil bend over backwards to help you with a little tough talk. Let me know how you make out.

It was bought last year before Christmas at a local dealer. First problem...that dealer is no longer open. Second problem...warranty expired anyway. Not sure I would trusted that dealer to service either. There are two independent dealers here now that also service. The one I mentioned before is a temporary setup in town for the holidays. The other is a year round business (Tony Toys). I will try to get in touch with them for service.
Besides the on/off switch and kill switch, what else could go out to loose spark? Just the CDI and coil?

My sons quad doesn't have the tethered feature, so I'm not sure how these are designed to work. They are either designed to ground out the voltage that is supposed to go to the ignition, or create an open circuit causing no voltage to be sent to the ignition. I'm guessing the second. There are a couple of tests you can do to see if the tether switch is the problem:
First-Disconnect the tether switch wiring and leave them loose. Remove the plug and ground it with the boot on while you try to start it and look for a spark
Second-If no spark with the wires loose, twist the wires together and try to start it again and look for spark.

First off go get an ohm meter then take the body off and find a plug and find the other end of the plug and check to make sure those wiring connections are good then keep unplugging that way till you find your problem, that is the way I do it.
