questions about my 04 650 twin v
#1
Hello All,
I have two questions about my 2004 650 twin v.
1) My bike has a hard time starting when it's cold. After it warms up, it starts just fine. It does have a choke switch, by the left handle grip, that moves forward and backwards. I'm not sure witch way I need to have the switch when I try to start my bike?
2) It steams that my steering is loose. It's always pulling right and then left, left then right...... Is there a way to tighten it up a little?
Thanks for your help!
Ed

Hey, sounds like you took may machine!!!!! I have the exact same issues. The starting kills me. If I try to start the machine and either use the choke or use the gas, i'm done. The only way I can start it is by just hitting the starter switch. Then it starts up but only runs for a few seconds and dies out. I have to do this like 20 times before it will stay running. Just crazy but that is the way it is. I would think there is a fix for this!!
I also have the same concerns about the steering. I fixed the pulling left and right by adjusting the tow in on the controller arms. That fixed the left to right but it still steers way too easy, better than too hard I guess. There is a kit you can buy that is a "steering dampener" that will stiffen up the steering. I'm looking for one that will fit our machine. Let me know if you get any answers to your starting issue, I would like the machine, but the cold starts are killing me.

the choke on my 650 is pulled towards the rider to engage, not forward. i have an 04' though, not sure if they changed it for your machine chumley.
in cold weather they dont reccommend using the choke during warmup but rather try and ride it around a bit without the choke. in order to do this just use the choke a bit to get it started a couple times, then i turn off my choke, push the throttle a tiny bit and hold it there while im starting the machine and try to play with the throttle to keep the machine idling, no sudden jabs.

Yer right, guess that shows you how much I ride in the winter.
Same here, I use the slightest amount of throttle to keep it running, doesn't even seem like the throttle is moving, but it is enough to keep it running.
