I have '92 LT250r which is a 6 speed. It screems and keeps up with modified banshee's. It wont take them, it out handles them big time. I have been told with the right gearing I can get 120mph out of it, but I don't know about that 80-90 yes but not sure about more than than without loosing too much low end power.

don't know who would win. I'm not too crazy about hondas, but pro racers used them for race quads 10 or 12 years after they quit making them for a reason. Could be due to handling, and not so much power, I don't really know.

85-86 lts were very light but also geared low. the trx would take it. the later LTs were slightly faster than the trx, though. suzuki redesigned the LT in 87 so it got allot of changes and 6 gears. Some insiders had stated that suzuki didnt think the honda would be as good as it was so it forced suzuki into revamp mode more quickly. but it still never handled quite like the trx. suzuki also gave it a powervalved engine in 87.
most did use the trx to race simply b/c nothing could touch it in handling. it has been and still is to an extent the most copied frame (yamaha pretty much said they used the trx250r as a kinda bluprint for the YFZ450; it shows too, b/c it handles very similar and IMO better than the 450R). 8(?) time world champ Gary Denton was a factory suzuki rider back in the day but when suzuki pulled out of atv racing then, he rode a honda and won most (if not nearly all) titles with it. he wasnt a 'factory' honda racer but thats what he chose to ride.
when the 450s came around several of the pros did not want to give up the TRX250R; they eventually had to b/c of the rule change, and here we are with the 450 era. im not complaining b/c we have 7 or so 450s out now when back in the day there were only 3 250s.
