KTM 450/525 XC

Yah they're making a big fuss over them alright, I'd really like to test drive one, although they've had over 200 models recalled because of problems with the rear brake caliper, but I guess they just didnt do enough testing of the production models, all the new models have this problem fixed, and I've heard good things about these KTMs, but we'll just have to wait and see how these quads do in the long run, there may be more problems, who knows?

Ive saw both the 450 and 525 at the dunes over Pres. weekend and wasn't really impressed with either in terms of a dune quad. I beat the 450 pretty bad up comp hill and the 525 didn't seem much faster. They were both bone stock and getting beat by plenty of modded 450 machines and 700 raptors. Considering the 10K the guy paid out the door for the 525 I would say he got the short end of the stick. For the 6-7K you would spend on any other machine that sure leaves a lot of money for mods when you compare prices. Also the fact it doesn't even have EFI for that price is kind of rediculous. Maybe they shine on an MX track....

Ya, not especially a good dune quad more for dirt. The motors are so lean to pass emissions its rediculous though. If they would just jet them right (from 138 to about 170) you would be amazed. Mine is a polaris but same motor as the 525 and I have yet to lose a race to anything stock for stock. Lost to one rappy 700 with a turbo. And also I have not lost to a single modded 450. They are impressive in their territory, dunes belong to DS and Rappy though imo.

Have a friend who had a Yoshimura-d 700r with a programer and he sold it to another friend so he could ge get a KTM525. The 525 in stock form hands the 700r it's *** every race, everywhere...anytime.
It drags better. It jumps better. It climbs better.
...and it's totally stock.

It has to be the riders and not the quad. Your the 1st I've heard that wasn't impressed. A bad rider can make a great quad look bad.
