Default Why is my quad smoking?

Hi, I;m new to this website, so if I mess this up, please don't be mad. haha. =] I have a 1987 Honda 250X that has been bored .080 over and when you first start it up it smokes like crazy. The smoke stinks too. But once you ride it, it goes away. Any ideas anyone? Am I in trouble on this one or.......? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Probably rings or valve guides. When it is warmed up the oil burns off better, so that is why the smoke goes away.

Do a compression test and a leak down test....

Actually, I just thought of something. You know that decompression lever on the side of the engine? The guy I got it from had that like wired half open, I think to make it easier to kick, but I don't know. Could that have anything to do with it? And I put my hand behind the exhaust and its not really ''pushin'' like I think it should. My brothers little XR100 had more. His would move the dust on the ground behind it, mine wont. I don't think its the rings, it was JUST rebuilt, not even all the way broken in yet. But, it might be, I don know a lot about this stuff yet. Any ideas? And what is a leak down test?

So does this mean I'm screwed? I have no money, I spent it all on the bike. Is it gonna hurt it to just ride it?

I'd say you might go thru some plugs ,and some oil but short term you shouldn't be hurting it

Well, now that I think about it, I might not of broken it in right, I think I revved it up too much. Whats the worst it can be? If its gonna need to be rebuilt again, I'll ride it till it blows up, because I cant get a bigger piston w/out a WHOLE lot of money. Hopefully its short term like you said, but well see this weekend. Im bringing it to my friends place and if it doesn't blow up, I'm good to go. Unless someone thinks i shouldn't. Anyone?
