scrammy starter not working?
#1
it started and i didnt have the choke on so it stalled a few seconds later.tried to restart (many times since then-4 days ago)even after a battery recharge to top it off and all it does is click when you turn the key and click again when you release it back. the lights dont really dim like its sucking up juice-its like the starter is "frozen" and needs a spanking with a hammer like an old car would to get it moving. any suggestions?

mine does this too from time to time. your solenoid is just is just not completing the circuit to the starter. it must be sticking inside some where. the soleniod is right in front of the battery. the positive battery cable is connected to it. sometimes you can tap on it with a handle of a screwdriver and it will work. for me if it does it i usually just cycle the key a few times and it will usually go. this can also happen when its cold out.
but when it comes down to it, the solenoid just needs replaced. i think they are only around $25-$30.
good luck..

Clicking is the Starter, if the starter works but the bendix does not then you would still hear a working starter spinning over. Mine would click at the solenoid but it was the starter brushes sticking. Easy things to clean up and get moving again.
Tapping the starter worked for a short while until they were just stuck to bad.
I took out the air box and removed the top easy starter mounting bolt. With the bottom stubborn mounting bolt you just back in off until it hits the backplate of belt housing,it will not come out but will disconnect.
Than I used large channel locks and turned the start clockwise until the bolt was at the 12 O'Clock position and slipped the bolt and the starter right out no problem.
Than I just cleaned up the starter brushes untill they moved freely again.

yes,it sounds like the solenoid is clicking(i know the sound of a spinning starter and this is not it) I will try the first two suggestions because it is very dirty and full of frozen snow and mud and it was the coldest riding i have ever done.
then i will move on to cleaning out the starter...
i usually clean the bike right away but its too cold even now to wash it down,so it waits for this weekend
thanks for all of the advice guys!
if all else fails,I have a 5 year warranty and who knows? polaris might cover it....not!!!

Could be the switch itself on the handle bars. If you don't hear a click. Make sure you are getting voltage down to the soleniod.

its the solenoid, its going in for repair this saturday(most likely) and it is covered under warranty

If the starter fails it clicks at the solenoid,EVEN IF THE SOLINNOID IS PERFECT. Sorry just wanted to point that out. Starter failer is heard of many times, solenoid failer is uncommon to hear about.
If it was texas hold em I would bet "all in" its the starter, and not only that but a sticking brush.

And I would be putting my money where TLC put his I had the same problem on my 07. But make sure you put a test light on the starter and make sure you have power when it's clicking just to be sure.
