Default My Jet Moto Review

Hello dear reader.
My Dad decided that he was going to buy a Jet Moto for my nephews. I heard about the price so I decided to ride with him to the "dealer" and check the bike out. Being a Honda tech I asked some tough questions, that the guy at the dealer couldnt answer. You know really tough questions like,"where are the parts?" The guy said that he could get any parts my Dad would need, and I doubted that in front of him. He told my Dad that he had a new atv that was discontinued by jet moto, called a Desert Storm. It is a two cylinder (I have no idea why) 250cc four stroke. I took one look at it and about barfed. There are so many things wrong with the design of this crappy thing where to start is the question. Since my Dad,against my advice, bought it I have a chance to tell you guys about the quality of this product. I know what some of you are going to say.You are going to say "it's not a japanese bike, and doesnt have japanese quality",and you would be right. However, this bike was bad from the beginning.

My Dad called me the day he brought it home, and told me he had a problem with it not starting. So I go over there thinking it would be something simple.Actually it was simple. The wiring was twisted together without the benefit of any connectors, and in some cases without even any tape. So I spent a couple hours fixing that,no biggie, just tedious, and not called for on a new machine. Next I got a call about it not starting again. I go over there, and the wiring ends had broken off at the CDI. I called some guy in California for a wiring diagram for the machine, they said that they didnt have it,and couldnt get it.So here I was with all the wires broken out of the CDI,and no diagram. It would be a easy fix but for one small issue. The wiring colors changed,if you saw a peice of black cloth tape you knew that the wire color going into it would be different coming out. The next issue was the reverse. One of the things I thought was a really bad idea about this quad was the rear transaxle. The thing was almost impossible to adjust so that the machine would move forward, and in reverse. Eventually, after about 20 total hours on the machine the gears ground to peices in this junky transaxle. The shifter quickly stripped, even though the bolt was tight. The footpeg broke off at the weld.I welded it myself, and it broke in a different spot.

The fit and finish was terrible, and though I really wasnt expecting much,I was expecting more. The castle nuts on the a arms ect didnt fit at all. They threaded down so far that you couldnt get a pin through them. The choke lever on the handle bars broke the first day. The handle bars themselves were to small for the clamps. The thing vibrated like a washer on spin,I couldnt imagine riding this thing for several hours. A good thing because it wont run for several hours. The fuel petcock started leaking, and I discovered that it was because the screws were stripped. The warranty is a joke, finally after a few weeks we were able to get a part we needed out of Atlanta. The fact that the warranty does NOT cover labor is stupid. I say that because the dealers locally wont touch it to install the part for you,if you dont have the knowledge it's TS.There are three Honda dealers in my area.Just for giggles I called two of them, and they told me what I have just told you. Also I called a Suzuki dealer and got the same response.

My Dad,not to mention those boys he bought that junker for are really dissappointed. The sad thing is I had a quality used Honda Rancher at the shop he could have gotten for a couple hundred more than he paid for this thing. You want to see something funny? Put a Jet Moto,or any other Chinese ATV in the paper anywhere in the southeast, you will discover quickly that it wont sell at all unless you lower the price well below what you paid for it.And by low I mean 10%. If you want proof for free just list the thing in Craigs List as used and see what happens. The only way you can sell it at all is by lying and saying it's a good machine. That explains why the legit dealers wont touch them.I am told the youth machines are quality units, but I have never seen them so I cannot say. I know for a fact that my employer wont even look at them as trade ins,or to even be serviced by us (a blessing for me). The sad thing is these chinese units could be good, and they are shooting themselves in the foot by selling junk.Word of mouth is a powerful tool.As such I will posting this review everywhere I can including usenet, and all forums I can join.

Can you post some pics of this model? I may be wrong, but Jetmoto has only started selling 250's in the past few years, but not a twin. Also I don't ever remember a Desert Storm model. Jetmoto has built up a pretty respectable reputation on this sight, so back up your accusations with some proof. Otherwise we should just ignore this as a one post wonder troll.

I know of the machine you are talking about its an early model that came on the market 3-4years ago but I havn't seem them since. I was able to find a twin 250 on this sites "old stock" quads. http://mfcd.com/ca/atvs.html#ATV_250

I had looked them over and I thought too they were pretty crude for the price back then which was around $3900 up here in Canada. Which I thought was a rip off as at the time a new HONDA TRX250 utility was $4700, my father bought one.

One this same site their "NEW" quads they give this link http://www.nstmotor.com/atvs.htm

</a>

Anyway what did you pay for this quad??? Could have been a heck of alot like what $700-$1000?? I don't know if Jetmoto sold these or not. Thier current 250 utlilty which is a Yamaha clone sells for $2200 I think. If your a "HONDA TECH" and went with him to the dealer why and hell did you let him buy it if you could see it was a piece of junk?????

If you want to complain about this quad in question go for it. Post some pics too of the faulty parts and crappy wiring etc. So people know what too look for. This is what this forum is for to to let people know what models to be aware of. Quad jockey's that mislead people in pawning off these old stock crappy models should be known about. What was the name of the dealer?

AS for painting all Chinese quads with the same brush I think its a bit much. Especailly when you admit you have little experience with them (just your dads). Some are bad but over all they are improving every year.

As for tons of used Chinese quads in the paper.....I wish. There is hardly any in my local classified ads. I was hoping to pick up one on the cheap but no luck so far.

I know for a fact that my employer wont even look at them as trade ins,or to even be serviced by us (a blessing for me).

You mean to tell me you guys refuse work wow......your dealerhip must be quite busy or short on staff. I know our local Honda had a 2- 3 week wait to get your quad in to be fixed. I would be pissed if I couldn't fix my ATV and had to wait 3 weeks to get it to be repaired at the dealer. I can understand someone bringing in an off brand atv in which you can't get parts for through Honda etc. In cases like this I would tell guys if you bring me the "parts" I'll fix it. I know of a small engine shop that works on off brand chinese atv's. Says there money is fine with him!

I can't see Chinese ATV's being any diff. to work on then the ones assembled in Japan with some of the parts made in China.

I agree. This is a great place to post reviews and share your info on your machines,But it may be a good idea to do your homework as well.Jetmoto is a respected company that strives to build a good quality machine and yet compete with a market flooded with lower quality machines.

You know I've been kinda keeping my eye on the paper for some cheap chinese quads that people want to dump for cheap like a couple hundred bucks but there never seems to be any. I even went to an auction where dealers dump these at. They had several brand new ones in the crate still. I took a look at them and you could see they were "cheap" chinese quads and old stock. But still at the auction these guys were paying close to 1000 bucks for them I couldn't believe it!!! I would have dropped a couple hundred but a grand forget it!
