Info you may need for manual Choke(enricher)

Well I started the quad today and noticed the manual choke lever would not stay in the out postition. The rubber ring when turned clock-wise will tighten the rod to keep the lever in the extended position(ON).............Now before you reply I know most of you may know this already (me just today..LOL..LOL...) but if it helps just one rider ....well the post was usefull!!!.......After owning these two Sp 450's since June 2006........I just learned something new today!!!....LOL.....Caper.............

If I'm reading your description correctly your choke is a pull-out **** not a cam type lever?
My '07 Hawkeye has the pull-out **** and just like you mentioned it will not stay in the out position. Yes I did see the plastic knurled nut under the rubber boot. However, mine has little plastic fingers that ride on the rod and it's the fingers that the nut appears to squeeze Anyway, with the nut tightened all the way, even using pliers, it's still not enough. Any ideas other than a new choke cable? Maybe I need to put some "stick-um" on the rod??
It wouldn't be so bad but this machine needs LOTS of choke when it's cold.

4th year with my Sportsman and just found this do-hicky laying in next to the starter.
A brass knurled **** with a cable leading up to the idle adjustment. I guess it is there to adjust the idle without getting onto the screw with a screw driver. ye haw, two new goodies in one day.
It looks like at one time the brass **** was secured to a bolt with a loop of wire.
Glad I found it as this beast is the most cold blooded animal I've ever owned. turning up the idle helps in the cold.

Forget the plastic knurled nut, just turn the rubber grommet above it. Worked for mine, Thanks Caper, I almost pounded mine in with a hammer one day when it wouldn't go back in. Turned the grommet and ok.
