if the waterpump was bad it wouldnt take very long to overheat the engine and the antifreeze wouldnt be hot all through the system. howlong does it take to overheat it?

last i ised it ,it was 80 degrees out, and it took maybe 15 min to over heat,is there a way to test the pump? like disconnect the tube after it and start it to see if its pumping the coolant thru?
