Like fasternu said, the snow wasn't a very good idea. If whatever was wrong with it didn't kill the motor, the cold snow thrown directly on the hot motor could have..... If your not much into working on your own motors - I'd get it straight to the dealer. Good luck.

I hate to say this, but I am afraid you may have a scuffed piston or cylinder.
If it overheats, it is not a good idea to cool it off with snow. The snow will cool the cylinder too quickly, shrinking it before the piston can cool. This can create an interferance fit (piston too tight) which will cause a screeching sound and galling. Hope it isn't hurt too bad.

What I do not get is this. What's the differance between throwing snow on that hot motor or submerging the same hot motor in cold water when crossing a deep stream which we all do?

thanx for the replies im guess im gunna bring it to the dealers since its and internal engine prob tim1 the difference is that this quad was overheated and i threw snow on it i knew it was a bad idea but its scary standing in the middle of nowhere like i was so i threw snow on it and got outa there (mainly b/ of bears)its would go for awile put would bog down and die and when i threw snow it would start again but barely

Good point Tim1 - I'm not an engineer, but the best way I can think of it is that first of all, when you head across that creek or stream - you normally don't have a motor that's overheated. If it's running within designed specs., it can handle it without seriously damaging the motor. But in this case, a problem of some sort had already occured - causing the motor to seriously overheat - and throwing snow directly on it to cool it down probably only added to the problem long term - although it got atvman123 going.
In all actuality, I guess we really don't know if the snow did any harm at all. But I wouldn't have wanted to try it unless I was willing to sacrifice my motor to get moving as atvman123 apparently was. I guess if I was worried about a bear coming around the corner - I'd probably shove ice cubes in the fuel tank if I thought it would help. But luckily I don't have to worry about bears here in Ohio.
Just my 2 cents......
