Man I would defintiely buy a K&N filter over any other brand, may cost more but is a lot better. Also I bought a UNI for my banshee and all it did was starve it for air.

If you read about K&N's you'll hear a lot of negatives, mostly of how they let small particles through that other filters trap. I think it's all a matter of how well you are oiling and maintaining the filter though. I use a UNI with No-Toil oil and am very happy with it.

We have K&Ns and a TWINAIR. The K&Ns are great. The TWINAIR seems to be ok but looked cheap made when I got it. It has worked fine.

do you guys know if it is a filter that slips over the factory metal canister or does it have its own inside?

A bit of advice here. Avoid the K&N. I ran them with Outerwears on everything for a short time. Every time I would take one off I would wipe out the intake with a white rag, and there would always be a film of very fine dust! Play it smart and play it safe...stick with foam! Leave the K&N's for the street......

I think the UNI is a nice compromise between good air flow and great protection. For some reason, on the Ranchers they do not come with their own metal cage to hold them open. You have to stick with the factory "metal cannister" as you called it. The canister is very restrictive, but it functions as a baffle to prevent a fire if it backfires into the carb. The Ranchers are the only quads I have owned where they do this....so maybe they know something we don't. Perhaps it is best to keep the cannister on, with these machines????
