Default WHICH WINCH PLATE FOR 2X4 RANCHER 420??????

SO I AM TRYING TO PUT A WINCH ON MY 07 RANCHER 420, BUT ON EBAY THERE ARE 2 DIFFERENT PLATES TO CHOSE FROM. MOST OF THEM SAY "FIT 4X4." OTHERS SAY THAT THEY FIT BOTH. SOME RUB THE TIRES. OTHERS DON'T. ONE PLATE IF FLAT WITH A SLIGHT BEND IN IT. THE OTHER LOOKS PRETTY SPECIFIC.

WHICH PLATE FITS THE 2 WHEEL DRIVE MODELS CORRECTLY.

I WILL PROBABLY ORDER A VIPER, VENOM OR GORILLA. I JUST WANT SO MAKE SURE THAT I GET THE CORRECT PLATE.

THANKS

Try Gowarn.com if you decide to buy a warn winch. They have great deals on both the winch and the mounting plate.

Default WHICH WINCH PLATE FOR 2X4 RANCHER 420??????

I believe that all mounts for the rancher fit the 2X4 and 4X4, the issue is with the turning radius of the 2X4 is less than the 4X4. The front drive shafts limit the amount the wheels can turn on the 4X4. The motor on the all of the discount winches sticks out far enough on one side to hit the tires. The only winches that fit are the warn winches that have the spool in the middle of the winch which distributes the size evenly. I too own a 2X4 2007 because of the price break $3600 they are selling them for right now. I figured with a winch I could always get out of trouble but I hate that I now must by a more expensive winch. In the long run the warn winch is probably worth the extra money.

Questions
Can I get away with a 1500lbs winch or do I really need the 2500?
Where is the 12volt accessory plug go? I don't have one but want to install one and wondered where it goes.

I called this company they make a good mount and talked to me about what would fit.

You could probably get away with a 1500 pound winch. I purchased the 2500....just to be sure. As far as the 12v accessory plug, you can buy one from Honda and install it on the front rack or through the body just below the handlebar. If you buy one from honda, there is a plug above the right front tire (if your're sitting on the atv) that is attached beside the radiator. All you have to do is plug the outlet into that water proof plug and your're all set. I think the outlet and every thing is about 40.00. Expensive, but worth it. I installed one a while back and was fairly simple except of the cutting a whole in the body with a hole saw. I'll take a picture and post it for later today.

Thanks for the info VooDoo01.

I bought the 12volt outlet from my local honda dealer and mounted last weekend. It says to mount on the right side but I moved it over to the left where my GPS is and it worked fine. I will post some pictures this weekend.

By the way, I looked at your pictures and besides your nice quads your yard and garage look emaculate in the back ground.

Thanks for the compliments gcatramb. However, the yard seems to always find a way to detract from my riding time. Glad to know the outlet worked well for you. I too mounted mine on the left side and for the same reason as you, my GPS. I'm happy I went with the factory outlet instead of some aftermarket because it plugged right in. Did you mount yours on the rack or did you mount it through the plastic as it normally comes from the factory? I haven't had a chance to take a picture of my work and post on here yet, but by this weekend I should have time. Again, thanks for the compliments.

I would rather mount it throught the plastic but not sure where the best place would be, Maybe when I see where you put yours I will move it. I think it would be better protected in the plastic.

I will take a few pictures of mine but down here in Oklahoma the grass doesn't green up for another month, so no pictures in the yard yet.

VooDoo01 or gcatramb, I'm thinking about adding an outlet on mine. How is the Honda outlet different that aftermarket? Where does it plug in?

Deronn,

If you buy one from honda, there is a plug above the right front tire (if your're sitting on the atv) that is attached beside the radiator. All you have to do is plug the outlet into that water proof plug and your're all set. I think the outlet and every thing is about 40.00. Expensive, but worth it. I preferred the factory plug for various reasons to include; there is receptical for the outlet on the atv, it's waterproof, ease of installation, and appears to be a little more durable. You could probably hardwire an aftermarket into the wiring harness if you like. I'm sure the aftermarket outlets are just as good. It comes down to choice.
