Default GBC Dirt Commander tire

I just found an ad in the March 2008 issue of 4-wheel ATV Action, and it shows this tire as an 8 ply bias construction tire. It looks like an ITP TerraCross tread pattern, but slightly altered. I have the TerraCross tires that are 6 ply, and they are pretty rigid tires.

These new 8 ply tires must be EXTREMELY tough. If I was in need of new tires I might try these out, but my TerraCross radials are wearing very slowly so they'll last me a few years for sure.

Anyone else see these tires? And what's your opinion on 8 ply.

7/8" of tread. Not bad, but they're fairly heavy. The 26" weighs 27 pounds and they don't list the weight of the 27". http://www.gbcmotorsports.com/...ts/dirt_commander.aspx I like some of their other tires better. If anyone figures out why they show an army Sergeant Major's rank on that page, let me know. A Commander is always an Officer, not an NCO. Dirt Non-Com would suck as a name, but they have a non-com's insignia instead of a commander's. I'm confused.

Just personal opinion but 8ply would be kinda stiff and heavy. Rocks are fun so I like a fairly soft tire.

Because those stripes look tougher than bars or stars.

It usually is a tough old SOB wearing all those stripes.

i believe they're made for the hard core mudders. the heavier tire won't float as easy

It's a dirt tire, not a mud tire. DIRT Commander. It should have less punctures from rocks and sticks, but I've never had on on a quad anyway. Only a puncture on a truck once.

That's a Sergeant Major insignia. Maybe they meant to go for Command Sergeant Major.
