well i was having alot of sputtering on and off.this is the first time i bin ridding in a year and a half.sometimes ran great sometimes sputters.so im pretty sure the carbs a little dirty.i figurd if i had it apart i was gonne do a rebuild kit,but i cant find one.not evan at the dealer. something about that year they just dont make them.i just wanted some new seals new jets and metering rods, needle and seat.basicly just a rebuild kit,but no luck for that year.and polaris parts are crazy priced .it would cost me like 100 bucks for all the parts i want.so whats invaled in the clutch kit insatll?other then the tools to remove the clutchs .do i need anything special.is everybody happy with them?are they really worth 200$or should i just face it that my 500 is a dog big time compared to the grizzly.

what happpend to my carb on my 2001 500 and it has the 500 sportsman engine and carb in it and its teh same carb you have. theres nothing you realy need to replace in the carb maby the needle and seat. if it isn't sealing there are a few diferent companies out there that make jet kits for more performance. mine wasn't running good and i found out that my adjuster screw was around 4 turns out. idk if thats were it was set or if it just vibrated off thre w the years it had a previous owner. I when threw the hole carb tob automatic choke everything cleaned with electrical contat cleaner. thats what het shop manuel asked for. set it at 2 and 5/8 turns out and runs great.

Check out eBay, sledpartsguy has tons of rebuilt kits, I purchased one for my 99 400 for 21 bucks shipped. If you can't find something, email him and he will let you know if he can get it.

By memory, I'd like to say you have a blue green spring with 10 wh weights. If that is the case, try a polaris green spring with the stock weights. I think you'll like it. The spring is about $20.00 from your dealer, nothing special about putting it in. As far as the carb give a good cleaning and give it another try.

your right i have the blue sspring now.if i put in a green one whats the differance.more torqe less top end.is it gonna have a good snappy respose when i hit thge gas.im not to worried about top end so much i spend most of my time in the swamps of florida.so green is what need?

I've done 2 500's now with this setup. The engagement is abit higher, putting your engine on good power before the clutch comes in. Top end speed really doesn't suffer. I would also bet you could drop 1 main jet size, 1 being it's always warm there, 2 Polaris is noted for being fat on stock jetting. Read your plug first before changing the jet though. I'm really surprised FTWFLH hasn't chimed in here, HHHMMM. Good luck Doc..

I would go with the Polaris white instead of the green. It has a lower engagment and about the same shiftout rate.

Well just got my green spring and put in in.went with epi green because my dealer is a dumb a$$.so i dont know if there is a differace between that and a Polaris one .but have to say good call on the green spring.it has a lot more get up and go.big difference.
thanks again
