I ride a raptor 660, and I love it, with a pipe and filter it really makes the 660's shine. The downside to them is that the bike is a little top heavy and wants to role if you don't really put your body into it. The 660 would be my choice, but i mostly ride the dunes and i don't have any experience with a Z400.

If the 400EX wasn't enough then the Z400 isn't going to get it either. I would say go with the 660. I also ride one and I love it, maybe because I just don't know any better. It has all the power most people need from the factory, it's comfortable, has reverse, and you can find them cheap. They are harder to keep all 4 wheels on the ground than most other quads, but with a little extra body english or a wider axle would help the situation..

Powerwise: 660, definetly
Handling: Z400, but that's easy to fix on the Rappy with a couple of easy mods

my uncle has a z400 and all he has on it is a pro circut pipe and that thing rips. and it's WAY WAY faster than a 400ex. but the raptor will deff. blow the z400 away any day.

i would go with the rappy it has much better bottom end torque for the trails, and is alot more reliable as long as u keep away from the 2001 models. they might not handle quite as well, that problem could be fixxed for about $200, with lowering kits, and 450 shocks.

I honesty wpuld go with the LTZ400 for racing in the woods. Unless you want to spend money on better suspeneion. Yes they are fast, but they are top heavy, front end light and don't handel trails to good.

well the biggest problem is the tranny in the 01 model. they dont hold up to excessive stress, and can cost quite a bit to fix.
