Actually alot of it is thanks to you Stendori. Wouldve had a much tougher time without your help. Thanks a ton.
I wish I had taken pictures. I might be able to remember the size tools I used so I can provide a tool list for those who wish to use the guide.

Great info. Save it for later. It will come in handy. There are posts asking for winch help every other day.

I know this is an old thread but I am in the process of installing a winch on my 08 800 touring and it seems to be the exact same steps as the ones used here except for the step 20? I would like to know if anyone has installed this winch on their machine and if it is the same steps for the 08? I would also like to know if I can put silicone over the connecting posts on the solenoid?
Thanks
Rene

I realize this thread is 2 years old, but MAN what a great set of instructions this is! Hellova lot easier to understand for me anyway. Only problem is I'm probably going to require at least 2 extra "grab a cold beer" steps to get it done properly.
Again, sorry to bring up such an old thread, but it will really help me and I wanted to say thanks.

One thing to add. Take off your wedding ring or any ring when reconnecting the battery. I almost welded my wedding ring to the engine when the ring bridged the gap between the pos. terminal and the engine. Burned about an 1/8" of skin off the ring finger too before I could get it off.

My warn winch died on me a few years back so I took it off, I never do hard rides alone and every other ATV has a winch so if I get stuck I just let them get me out. I,m not paying another $350 for a new one. Plus I like the extra 50lbs of mounting plate and winch off of the front.
