wire harness swap 1998 foreman
#1
Has anyone put a wiring harnees from an 02-04 on their 98-01 450 foreman?
I am wanting to know if the rectifier regulator plug is the same on the two models. I know that the rectifier/regulator has a different part number between these models but was wondering if the plug on the harness to the regulator was the same.

I see that the wiring schematic appears to be the same(Y,Y,Y,R,G) but this does not show me the shape of the plug and whether the plug from the 2002-up harness will plug into my 1998-2001 rectifier.

If you are swapping harnesses and the number of wires and colours are the same, you could simply cut the plug off the old harness and splice it onto the new one. Just be sure to solder the connections and cover the splice with heat shrink tubing.

Maybe I am not being clear enough. I had another post asking if the plugs were the same and asking around if anyone had an old harness that I could get/buy the rectifier plug from. I have tried everything to get my quad to charge the battery. I put a new rectifier on it and it will not charge still. Now it spits and sputtters when running. I can wiggle the plug at the rectifier and it dies. Then when you get the plug back in the just right position, it runs again, sometimes spitting nd sputtering, but still not charging. I want to replace the rectifier plug, not the whole harness. I found a cheap harness for an 02-04 but don't know if the plugs are the same for the rectifier.

Oh, much clearer now. Have you tried the dealer? I have replaced the connectors for the headlights on my forman (Installed 2001 Rubicon Headlights in my 1998 foreman - bulbs were different, so were the connectors) with the right ones from my dealer. In any case, if you look closely, you can take apart most electrical connectors. Each of the metal pins in the plug are usually crimped to the wire, then inserted into the plastic body of the plug. I have sucessfully used dental tools to take connectors apart, clean the connectors, sometimes resolder them to the wire, and reassemble as good as new. Takes some time and patience, but could get you out of your jam. When your done, coat the plug in a liberal coating of dielectric grease.
