Default .Sportsman 800 Oil

Hey all. New to the ATV ownership world. I have ridden a few... but finally made the jump. I purchased a NEW 07 Sportsman 800. Had a quick question. The manual suggest Polaris 0W40. Rather than a half hour trip to the dealer, I purchased another kind... I think it was a Penzoil or Vavoline... but it was a 0W40 and it said "for European cars". Not sure if I made the right purchase or not. Is 0W40 all the same other than brand? Like Penzoil and Vavoline 5W30 is the same?

thanks for any info.

It was full synthetic... I just got concerned when I got home and saw the "European Cars" thing on the bottle.

Mobile 1 0W-40 has the "European Car" formula statement on it. According to what I've read, this 0W-40 has more phosphorus (I believe is what the chemical was) in it. Maybe it was zinc. Either way, this is advantageous for certain applications, high revving engines, etc. Better for the valve train, etc.

I'll see if I can find the article and post it here. It may have even been on the actual Mobile 1 website.

Either way, any quality synthetic 0W-40 or 5W-40 will do just fine. Mobile 1 and Amsoil seem to be the most popular brands used by guys in the Polaris forum.

So, understanding that I really can't remember the brand... very well could be Mobile 1... with what you said above, this is an OK brand to use? I really don't want to mess this machine up. I have not used it yet... only have 10 hours on it in the last month... will be changing the oil next month. I want to make sure I have a brand that will keep this machine in tip-top shape.

Mobile 1 0W-40 is perfect for your 800.

ADDED:

I use Amsoil Forumula 4-stroke 0W-40 because it is the viscosity that Polaris recommends AND has the recommended API service rating.
