i got a 98 polaris 400 4+4 runs fine goes fine but i cant get the lever to shift for N-L-H-R WHATS WRONG WITH IT

 

Is it a gear now?

 

YES IT IS! WHERE CAN I FINE THE VIN # ON IT TOO?

 

VIN should be on the right framepost. I believe you are stuck in one gear while the selector is in another. Lets say the machine is actually in reverse and the gear shift is in another spot. You need to force the selector back into the reverse spot before you can proceed. Another way to do this is to remove both shifting rods and put both levers on the transmission in the center position put the gear select in the neutral position. the rods should line back up and away you go. Hope that is your problem. Doc

Don't know how many #s, But it should start with your year. 98-----

 

ALL IT AS IS MN/W968040 THEN IT AS *2919059* ARE ANY OF THOSE IT SO I TAKE THE GEAR LEVER OFF THEN WHAT I DONT WANT TO MESS IT UP?

 

Take the shift rods off, not the shifter. Sounds like it's a 96

They go from the shifter to the transmission
