04 600sp rear axle removal
#1
can someone please tell me how to remove the rear CV axles on my 04 sportsman 600, is there anything inside the differential holding these in place ? I have everything out of the way just want to make sure there is nothing else holding these .

theres a cir clip that is on the outsie of the shaft. but it compresses into the shaft when you solide out the cv assembly. the shaft just snaps out. sometimes if they've been in for awhile like yours you need to spray some kind or penrating oil like BP Blaster in around the cv where it goes into the rear end. then after a little wait snap it right out and sometimes it even requires prying on it a little but becareful you dont break the alum. housing.

just another point, but they dont just pull right out w/ constant pressure as they need a good snap and maybe w/ a pry bar. but i would let it set w/ the penertrating oil for a bit before you even try it.

Iam in the process of removing the rear left CV joint . I soaked it in penetrating oil (wd40) and Ive let it sit about 6 hours and tried pulling , prying , tapping around it with a hammer, I manged to pull the axle out of the cup ,that sits up tight to the housing ,so now I have the CV joint out but the cup is still in the differential and I'm all out of ideas . I guess maybe I'm being to careful not to break the aluminum housing does anyone have any ideas. One more thing the last couple times I have rode it , for the frist little while 4wd drive doesnt want to work in reverse , I push the overirde button in and the dsiplay says the 4wd is working but only the rear wheels are spinning after playing with it a bit i can get them to lock in then after 5 mins I have to play with it again, to get it in 4wd in reverse again, after I do that a couple times its normally good for the rest of the day and it works good. Thanks for everyones help

I had the same problem on my 03 700. I have the cup still in the rear. I pulled and pryed for a hour and it would not budge.

but the rear gear cases on your and his are differnt. his is thiner and your i beleve is fatter. so i dont think it would work on your to pull the oposite side out and try to pund it out. his it looks like its just a large gear with splins go all the way though.
