do aftermarket wheels have a different offset than stock wheels? i ask this because of clearance issues with putting on bigger tires, and noticed that people say with putting on aftermarket wheels you don't have to worry about it. in case it matters i was looking at ITP SS106 rims with their XTR's. right now i have the stock black steel rims.

 

depends on what width tire you run, not postitive but anything wider than 8" in the front will need spacers or an offset rim the back is good for 12" width for sure. i put 28x9 in the front and left the 1.5" spacers i have on there from the 26x12 mudlites i had, not sure if it would have cleared so ididn't chance it.

 

according to the itp website the SS106 has an offset of 4+3. is this more of an offset than the stock wheels?

 

dont quote me but i think there a 3+4 stock rim. someone correct me if im wrong. so if it is in deed a 3+4 then your 4+3 would be 2" deeper rim for more clearance. someone had a real good post on it but i couldnt find it.

 

awsume800efi is correct....if you go wider in the front than 8", then you need to add spacers for the stock rims. Stendori is also correct on the offset.

I know for sure the ITP SS 106's have the correct offset to accomodate a 9" or maybe even a 10" front tire. The rears are not a problem. I have the SS 108's on the ITP Mudlites on my sp800 with plenty of clearance. I used the stock aluminum rims from it for my wifes sp700 and put on 27" mudlites...I had to use 1.5" spacers to clear. I installed spacers on the front and rear as the front stuck out noticeably more than the rear. Plus, it adds a little more stability to the atv and thus, less likely to roll over!

I don't think you can get an XTR less than 9". Even so, if you are going to buy new wheels, it really doesn't matter. Ditch the steel wheels and you'll enjoy the XTR's, they are an excellent tire.

BTW, why the XTR and not the Mudlite XL's?

firehog, i like the xtr because of radial construction and also like tread pattern better.

 

Correct, the aftermarket wheel with 9" tires will give you plenty of clearance.

I had the XTR's on my Rhino. I thought the radials were mainly for the UTV's with the weight and riding on asphalt, etc. I didn't even consider them for the sportsman. Are they quite a bit more expensive? Let us know how you like them......I'll bet they will ride smoother on hard surfaces.

the xtr's are fairly more expensive.

i'll let you know how they are if i decide to get them.

 

theres a night and day differnc between the xl's and xtr's in the smoothness in the handling. imo the xtr's are a better tire for that purpose and they do fairly well in the mud as well and they wear extremly well for me.
