Air/carb issues
#1
Ok gents, what i have here is a 95 magnum 4x4 425, i just bought a new air filter because the old one i found was killing my motor (stalling) now with the new filter it will idle and go untill you get oh i say 1/4 throttle then it sounds like it's gagging, it backfires the whole nine.. i think if i held it full it would blow! what would cause this and how do i fix it, it runs ok with out the air filter not good or great just ok.... so what do you think?

What condition is the foam "sock" that goes over the airbox snorkle? Also, is the metal "stand" that holds this foam "sock" still in place? - this "stand" fits down into the rubber snorkle and holds it open. On the 425's, both of these play a part in allowing the right amount of air flow to reach the engine at RPMs above idle.

it is now none existant i put the new oem filter on and it would die with it on so i took it off, it runs better but the funny thing is if i put my fingers slightly over the edge of both sides while at full throttle it runs like i don't know just really good i wish i could figure it out because judging from the performance when it is at it's best it's very impressive now stendori you have been following these issues with me what's your thoughts i mean i am acking to get this thing fixed the weathers getting warm thanks guys

have you cleaned the carb? if it runs good w/ the filter off something is wrong for sure as their designed to run w/ the air filter and outter spong cover and the cover on which restricts the air flow even more. did you adjust or move the fuel screw? sounds like its starving for air, thats why it runs good w/out the air filter.

When u put your fingers over the carb, you're cutting off some of the airflow. If that makes it run better, that means it is getting too much air totallly. Air is getting into the system elsewhere OR, something in the system is causing it to run lean. Usually caused by a plugged jet or fuel circuit.
1. Tighten, snug, all fittings holding the carb on.
2. If nothing positive happens, remove and clean all carb components. When you take something apart, make sure you remember how it goes back together. If in question take a picture or draw one.
