cant believe it...went to the local can am dealer and service shop here in portland oregon (sk northwest)...they told me to put titainium valve springs in that they would have to pull the whole motor out to be able to get the head off....is this true??
the counter guy told me it would be $250 in labor and $200 for the valve springs...and about a days worth of work....but of course they wouldnt honor that....
service guy called me back and told me he would need it for 3-4 days and it would be $900 in labor and $300 for the valve springs...

Sorry to hear this but I think you are getting the run around... I have pulled the head off my 04 a few times but never had to pull the motor. The head will squeeze by the crossmember near the back of the head with a little finessing. If that does not work the motor can be tilted forward by removing all but the rear motor mount.
There is a guy by the name of Chuck Glender in Jefferson Oregon PH# 1-541-327-3431. He is a very good builder that does great port work and builds a reliable motor at a resonable price. I would suggest giving him a call

I had a valve job done with 4 new valves and springs. The said they had to unbolt the motor from the frame and I told them thats not true according to the shop manual. I gave them the manual to refer to during the maintenance. They didn't have to remove any of the bolts after checking out the manual. They charged me around 70 bucks an hour. The whole thing was around 1000 which I thought was really expensive. I think It's also hard to find people who know these bikes unless you go to fun bike center or something like that.
I'm learning how to do things myself but it's still expensive. I'm doing the rear axle bearings and had to take the axle in to get the sprocket hub pressed off and a new one pressed on. The hub got worn down when the bearing worn out. They charged 1.5 hours labor $110 just to do that.

Yea i would suggest not gettin them, i ran the RWR cdi for a long time and never had a problem, unless ur a hardcore dragger or puttin serious mods in ur motor u dont need the valves, u have a tach on there im sure so u can keep a good eye on 'er, dont go over 7-8000 and ur fine, and stay away from dealers, they'll nickel and dime ya any chance they get!
