Default 93 polaris 350L 4x4

I bought this atv used and don't know alot about it. I just put a brand new battery on it from wal mart and can not get it to start with the electric start. It turns over and tries to start, but then it backfires alot and keeps on trying. finally after about 50 tries with electric start it will start, but you have to keep your finger on the start button until it is totally running, wearing out the starter. Does this sound like the bike is running too rich??? I have to mix my oil and gas since the oil injection has been bypassed. Why is it so hard to start. It almost starts easier using the pull rope instead of the electric starter.

Don't let the hp numbers fool you. Its all in how you get it to the ground. Clutching clutching clutching!

Sounds like you need to check the compression

what should the compression be around on these older polaris'??? I was just thinking that the spark plug might be oil soaked and changed out. It starts pretty quick with the pull start, just the electric start is hard.

It ought to have 120 pounds or so . They aren't a bad machine , especially concidering the cost of something newer .

I only paid $800 for the atv, and it I have put it through some bad mud spots and it has gone through everything. I just want to be able to use the electric start instead of pull starting it everytime.
