They're better than a 300EX. A 660 is not the best bike ever created, but they hold their own. They are getting cheap and they are just as reliable as any other ATV. What year model? If it's 2003-2005 in good shape that's a good deal. If it's 2001-2002 that's not such a good deal.

Also be careful with "it needs a starter". It could go a lot deeper than that and need some internal work.

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE 2002 MODELS, at least no more than the 2003-2005 models. The 2001 models had an unreliable transmission.

Needing a starter on a 660 usually means the one-way bearing is shot, about 300 bucks in parts.

i have a 04 660. i think it is a great bike. it holds its own against all other bikes, but i have admit i get left behind on the straight aways against the 450's. but all and all it is a terrific bike and i had it for about 3 years and it never gave me any trouble expect when i ran it through a creek and sunk it and i had to do a good carb cleaning. but i been told that the 01 660's had transmission issues. yahamaa worked them out in 02. as for a starter i am sure you can find a good deal on Ebay. you have easy access to the starter too. but i think the 660 is a great bike!

I love my 2003 660. I purchased it used, and had to work out a few bugs which were primarily there from neglect, but its a solid quad. Not to mention, these bikes are parted and stripped for sale on ebay regularly, so used parts can be found VERY easy. The popularity of the 660 also makes mods plentiful.
