well we just got back from the hospital were my 8 year old daughter was for the past few hours. we were riding back from my mothers house about 1/8 mile down a private drive i had a trailer on the back of my sportsman with my nephews roketa in it i was bringing it back for repairs when it slid out the back of the trailer
and onto the road i heard it slide out and turned to look thats when i saw that my daughter was looking off to one side of the raod and not in front of her like i stress all the time anyway she ran the roketa over and flipped her quad she was wearing her helmit and chest protector but the helmit wasnt strapped on it bairly was on when her head first hit the ground and then flew off allowing her head to bounce on the road now i know what you are thinking im neglegent for not makeing her strap her helmit well your right but i would guess that there are alot of people out there who allow the same thing or even do it themselfs well it only takes one time for me to learn today we got lucky maybe next time we wouldent so there wont be a next time all helmits will be strapped on all of us from now on and i hope that you will do the same with your family.

Wow Jayblazer,

I am sorry to hear about this incident. I hope and pray she is okay! Hey here is something to think about. I just bought this product at a local bike shop but have not installed them on my helmets yet. I am told that these are now required for all MX/Dirtbike competitive racers and such riders to wear, so the safety is there and its great cuz you wouldn't have to assist with strapping or supervise (maybe). Its a quick chin strap fastner for a click and release. I was told that the safety in this is if the person injuried looks like a neck/head injury they could easily remove the helmet with this type of fastner and more quickly.

Here is just one site, I googled it during my reply:

I bought them for my wife and myself. They sell for about $10 each. You attach them to the helmet chin strap and may need to re-position/remove the strap rings. I don't know I haven't yet installed them.

Please take care and thanks!

R'

Holy crap Jay, glad she's okay. As far as us thinking you're negligent, it was the furthest thought from my mind while reading your post. I was just glad to hear things turned out okay, considering what happened. Was she on the Predator?

Glad to here she is okay, Jayblazer. It really only does take a second for things to go bad sometimes. Again, I'm glad she's okay. I have one of those snap quick releases. I think I got it at Cabelas. It is a great investment. Makes putting the helmet on very quick and easy. Also, is easy to take off helmet when needed. Highly recommend them.

I'm glad she's okay. That quick release looks just like the Echo quick releases I have on both of my helmets. http://www.echoproducts.com/ A lot of ATV dealers keep them in stock. I got a red one on my red helmet, and a black one on the black helmet. I've been using them for years and they seem like they will last for the life of the helmet.

Man, I'm glad that she's ok. Hate to be the one to say it, but isn't 8 a little young to drive these things? Lots do it, I know, but its hard for a child to have enough judgment to make the right driving descisions.

no mongral i dont think she is to young to ride if i did she would not be on it i would suspect she has more seat time than you this is her third wheeler and her first accident.
she has been riding for 6 years now and loves it. and no im not mad that you pointed it out i knew someone would, but im really hopeing to convince others to make sure there kids strap on there helmets.
