The R for sure!
The Shee is a muscle car...all it is good for is going fast in a straight line. All it has ever had going for it is a thrilling powerband, which you can now get in a whole sea of 4-strokes these days...so nothing so special about that anymore. And, it just doesn't have good frame geometry or suspension.
The R's basic frame geometry has been copied over and over again...which should tell you something! It isn't as fast as the Shee, but at least you don't have to ride in a straight line.

I decided to start putting my 250r back together, and Im into it for about 3 grand now. When new, it was a great bike. Hardly had to do anything to it, and it was beat hard. Living in Florida, we can pretty much ride anytime. Ive ridden a few banshees, but I prefer a 250r.
Its the same thing as Vette vs Mustang. The Vette stock will smoke a stock Stang, but if you put some money into the Stang, itll walk all over the Vette.

The Shee is faster, but again it has lousy suspension/frame geometry and makes a better drag racer than a trail quad.
Honda stopped offereing crate engines for the R several years ago. The aftermarket for the R use to be absolutely huge....not sure what it is like today. Shee only went out of production recently, so parts should be available for a long time.
All I can say is the guys I have known for 20 years who were big time Shee dune riders back in the day, have switched over to the R....Honda 450R that is!

i whould get a 250r over the shee. a way better all around bike. and rebuild and stuff will be cheaper sence it is 1 cylinder not 2 like the shee. i think the 250r was the best 2 stroke ever made.
