E.F.I. and turbo for a thumper
#1
does anyone know of a company that makes a e.f.i. with a turbo on it for a 400ex or a 200x? i saw the hyper tech one for the banshee and it is pretty trick! any info would be appreciated.

Sure it does pam. that was my other option but i wanted to ask about a turbo first. but i have a few questions. did you put it on or was it a custom job through some company? give me some details, because a supercharger might be another option of mine.

Pam! Great to hear from you again!
Supercharged Warrior, huh? Sounds like an interesting subject for a feature article; I'd like to learn more about this project.
Now, regarding the matter at hand, "EFI/turbocharged Banshee," does the fuel injection for this two-stroke engine use throttle-body, manifold, crankcase or direct cylinder injection port? I'd like to hear of any owners' experience with this setup.
You pose an interesting topic, Random Task!

Actually, it was for an article in Dirt Wheels -- this has been about 10 years ago, at least!
Basically, it was one of those "wouldn't it be cool if we...." kind of discussions which actually got built.
It is still running (as of a year ago), and is relatively fast. Basically, the owner uses it as an occasional dune machine.
I can't remember much about it (sorry guys!), but it was built to 430cc, with about 10:1 compression -- big cam, porting, etc. The Supercharger gave it lots of boost for hillclimbing, but it was a little erratic and tough to control once the Supercharger kicked in -- especially when you where halfway up a hill!
The swingarm was lengthened -- I think in the 7-10" range.
As for how the actual conversion was done -- Pete Fisher actually built the Supercharger out of bits of metal. Definitely a one-off deal!
Oh, yea, in answer to your next question -- he says Supercharging a 400EX sounds interesting....but he wouldn't want to be the one doing the work!

This is a e-mail I got in november. I was looking to see who was experimenting in EFI on the ex. But I just don't have the coin to think about it right now. Why don't you give him a shout.
Jondelrace@aol.com (I think he's in England)
Hello Steve,
We are getting on well with the 400EX EFI kit. We are not yet at the
stage of
running, but we are getting close. We have drawn up several options:
1) Std air box / fuel tank
2) Alluminium fuel tank (large capacity under seat with quick fill
system)
with the air filter where the fuel tank was--possibly inside the
original
tank (have both tanks for real fuel capacity!)
3)Turbo system.
Keep in touch, we should be running before Christmas.
Best regards,
Pete.
(Three minutes later)-He is a good chap!. I found the other info he sent, But it's long with specs. E-mail me, I 'll send it to yeaa.

RandomTask,
I don't know of anyone willing to tackle it right now.
This is kind of a strange time in the industry -- everyone is so busy with regular work (thanks to all the new stuff being released by the OEM's) that they're unwilling to take on Frankenstein projects like they normally do during the "off" season.
The last few years, there hasn't been an "off" season for anyone!
