Default Sp 500 resevoir boiling and spraying

More problems!....My wheeler was overheating and I noticed coolant leaking out of the weep hole. I took it to a local shop and they replaced the mech. seal . when I got home I rode it around a little to check it out and when warmed up, coolant in the resevoir was boiling and spraying out the top of the resevoir. There was enough pressure that when I gave it some gas the resevoir would expand. My fan never came on but when I wired it to run constant it didnt help.I checked the stat and its opening fine and the rad is very clean!.....do i have a blown head gasket???

Thanks for any help

Frustrated.

Had the same thing on a 2000 500 sportsman. now this one did not have the weep hole in the res cap but it was boiling in the bottle. did everything you did and finly replaced the rad cap and all was good.Make sure to fill it and blead all the air out. should work

YOUR HEAD GASKET IS BLOWN OR THE WATER PUMP IMPELLER NUT LOOSE, ALSO SHINE A LIGHT FROM THE BACK SIDE OF YOUR RADIATOR, LOOKING FROM THE FRONT, LOOK TO SEE IF THE LIGHT IS VISIABLE THROUGH THE RADIATOR FINS. I HAVE SEEN THE FINS TOTALLY CLOSED OFF WITH MUD. THIS WON'T ALLOW AIR TO PASS THROUGH THE RADIATOR. YOU WILL NEED TO REMOVE THE SCREEN FIRST.

if your fan is not comeing on you have a air pocket..i have seen this many times and the newer cars i work on, they go as a fra as letting ableeder screw loose to let out the air pocket..i bet when they filled it with coolant they did not get all of the air out..all you need to do is when its cold take off the radiator cap and start it and let it wrm up to operating tem and it should start to burp air out, then fill when neded it may take a1/2 hr or so..now it you take the radiator cap off and start it and coolant starts to volcano out, thats a blown head gasket..but i tend to think its the lesser of the two evils

My old quad did the same thing and I had to fill the radiator with dirty water from a cooler to get back to the trailhead. After I flushed the radiator I refilled it and ran the engine with the cap off and kept filling it until all the air came out. I put a new cap on and everything was good, so I'm thinking you also need new radiator cap, or else have air in the radiator.

I hope y'all are right about the radiator cap and/or air in the system. I will try these things today, it would sure be alot easier and less costly than replacing the head gasket.

Thanks for the input ..I let y'all know how it turns out

i am having the same problem with my 03 sportsman. i was trail riding this weekend and noticed the idiot light on and anti freeze spraying out the weep hole in the top of the overflow resivoire. i was a long way from home on the trails so i had to keep filling a gallon jug of water and stopping every 2 miles or so to refill the radiator. when i would take the radiator cap off and fill the radiatior the water would boil out until it cooled. it would then fill, i would put the rad. cap back on and continue riding to notice the idiot light back on and water spraying out. the fan is working fine and the radiator is clean.

Mine ended up being a blown head gasket and a warped head. The head was off about 4000ths of an inch. I had it machined down and am now in the process of having it put back together. I hope I have enough valve clearense. I hope you have better luck than I.
