Xplorer 500 Dies When Put Into Reverse/ FIXED IT. THANKS
#1
My 97 Xplorer 500 would not go into reverse this afternoon and keep running. I figure it is a safety switch issue, but that is only a guess. Thanks for any help you can give me.

THe reverse limiter is bad.You can bypass it by unplugging the blk wire from the box.

Thanks for your response. I have mechanical skills, but I am not sure I know what "box" you are referring to. Also, when you say "bypass" and you refer to "unplugging' the black wire... are we talking about splicing it in on the other side of the "box". Thanks

You are going to have to open the "hood" (where you fill the radiator) and mounted on the left side of the panel in front of the steering bar is a black box (not the one with the yellow wires) - this is the RPM limiter (or Rev). Unplugging the black wire (and just leaving it hanging) "bypasses" the signal to the ignition coil to "cut out".
