Default Tie Rod End

I was just wondering what the differance was in the inner and outer tie rod ends. I noticed on my 05 500 ho that the inner tie rod can move up and down on the bolt. Is the inner wider than the outside? When I replaced them I might have put the tie rod in bacwards.

i have a 01 scrambler and mine is adjustable just bolts that dont bottom out, i remember getting one washer with a set,put that were its loose.they have different threads. i'll check the physical size with a caliper of the in+out old ones i have.update, myinner+outer ***** for the tie rods are identical(thats what she said) hopefully this is similar, the hold notch that you put a wrench on the tie rod to hold it while loosening+ adjusting the toe is about 2" from the outside tierod not 2" from the inside tie rod.

I don't have ones with the post made on to them. My tie tod ends have a hole through them that you but the bolt through. I looked at them a little closer today and I see why they are moving up and down. They have worn out a little and they are slideing up and down on the ball bushing. I still would like to know if there is a differance in the outer vs the inner because I can get two on ebay for 29 dollars but the ad said that it does one hole side and you have to puchase another for the other side. Not to clear in the add about if you can use them where ever. Thanks for all of the replies and I am happy to be in this forum with all of you good people.

Are you talking about the treads that screw on the tie rod itself. I was wanting to get the kit and use the ends for both the inners. Is this possiable? 05 Sportsman 500 HO.

I just went through the same thing - they are different and the ones your looking at are a set 1&1 inner&outer---What I did was went through ebay and used a place called - Halls of Medford-(715)748-3182 - they are out of Wisconsin and shipped my tie rod ends to me(in Maine) and I had them within 3 days. I paid 14.99 each and both sides had the same part number so don't panic if you get 2 with the same #'s they are the same, also your better off with the "BOLT&NUT" type that you wore out - rather then the ball and socket type, the bolt type are stronger and will last longer. Oh yeah the threads that are on the rod that you screw them onto are the same on both sides-left handed, well at least they were on my 99 Magnum500

Thanks for all the replies. I orderd the new ones today. Got them off ebay. I didn't get them from Hall of Medford cause I couldn't find them and when I called they were closed. I did find some also for 14.99 though.
