painting plastics

In my experience, dont. Even if you do a proffesional job, use the best paint for the job and have no cracking or peeling an ATV will inevitably get scratches. Unless it is going to be a showbike or it looks like hell to start with once you apply paint it will be constant maintenance to keep it looking good and/or one heck of a job to get all the paint back off. We used bumper paint for rubber bumpers on my friends LT500 it stayed on even when it flexed but still got lots of scratches from use every time he took it out.

If you do paint it, do it in the cosest color you can get to what it is now. Changing the colors is pretty much not possible on plastics because they bend and sctrach a bunch. It can be done though. I painted one and it held up for about a week until I went in the woods. Then it was hell getting it off. I painted a Jet Ski once with the same paint and it still looks good to this day so it really has to do with post paint use. Hope this helps.

my plastics are in rough shape it looks like they have been painted twice before and it is a mess i can take a belt sander to them right? or will that damage the plastics worse also what would be the best paint to use i am thinkin orange or black.

if i did it i would just use spray paint that attaches to plastic (outdoor furniture) and i'd keep it on hand to spray over the scratches. no matter what you gunna get scratches on brand new plastics so why not just use the ones you have now and make them fresh looking. thats my 2 cents
