01 yamaha 660 raptor

I have an 01 660 raptor that I just purchased. It is making a knocking noise in the engine that I was told was the oil pump. Is that normal?

well i heard that the 01's have screwey transmissions sometimes,but i dont think an oil pump should ever "knock" when does it make the sound? does it go away when you apply throttle?
