Minor Glitz - 08 Sportsman 400HO

Engine has developed a minor "surge" when travelling at a steady speed over 15 mph. Probably a fuel delivery problem but am open to any suggestions before I create a lot of work for myself. 60+ hrs on all components.

Seems like the most obvious area. I'll try that on Tues. If it is that, I guess I'll have to start filtering my fuel when I put it in the tank. Thanks

Mongrol,
How long has it sat after you bought it? My wife SP450 has just 100 miles on it but sat
for about 7 months with no starting etc. I paid the price for it as what everyone said
it was, WAS TRUE. A very dirty carb, filter and throttle needing adjusting. That crappy
gas sat in it for that long with NO stablizer in the tank. So when I did the service, I clean
out the carb, jetts, bowl, replace filter, plus a bunch of other stuff too (spark plug from
long running on choke etc.)
I wanted to post this as it is all related and I believe that eth Gas does something bad when
its not run straight thru.
Cheers,

Ha Ha, very funny, (how long has it sat?) Ridden daily but thanks fo the suggestions. I've rationalized in my mind that it is either the filter or fuel pump or I've got some contaminated fuel. I just did 11 mi of trail riding, stop and start, and thought it may have fouled the plug but ruled that out. Wrong symptoms.
Thanks R and other keep the suggestions coming although not a lot of option I think.

lucky for him there is no ecm in these bikes. if it was water in the fuel it would back fire and if it was a lack of fuel it might surge but it might back fire from being too lean as well. i know on the wifes bike the choke really sucks as its super senative and you wouldnt pull it out very far before it would kill the engine. on the 450 she had you could use it to make it high idle a little bit to it warmed up, but not on this one. it would foul a plug in no time flat if i tried it.
