Sport 400 thoughts

I rode a sport 400 today (bone stock) and was pretty surprised by it.
I didn't get to wind it up to see what it was made of... but you can tell the power is there waiting to be unleashed.
It didn't see to like lugging or putting around at all though.
Is there a pipe or a clutch kit or combo that would smooth and torque it up on the low end?

You can make the 400 VERY sporty with a kit. You can get up to DOUBLE the horsepower with a stage 5 kit, but I would only do a stage 1. http://www.aaenperformance.com/Power400.asp If you ever think you're going to ride at night get a headlight kit. I put one on my Trailblazer and it's the same lights as the Scrambler.

I will be riding at night for sure.... so you answered my next question about that little headlight.
I figured I would need the scrambler headlights or some sort of big baja style lamps.
I'm right in line with you... I think it's OK stock and wouldn't want to highly modify it. Just make it more luggable down low or higher rpm/lower speed to avoid fouling plugs and to make it more 'put-put' friendly for times it will be ridden that way.
Aaen is expensive... I was looking at RCR... and thinking there were also more suppliers but I can't think of them.
Anyways, I'm just trying to think ahead a little before pulling the trigger.
I'm going to check out a Trailboss 325 too before going back.

The stock Trailblazer headlight (same as the Sport 400) was almost useless to me. I was already spoiled by having the 3-way headlight kit on my Sportsman 500 before that. I actually got lost when I rode the 'blazer at night. I missed turns and everything.
There are at least half a dozen different clutch kits available. Lots of pipes too. Just Google "Polaris ATV clutch kits" and "Polaris ATV pipes". Most pipes aren't that good without some other mods like re-jetting.

I went back and was able to ride it a little more... and even "get on it" a little.
I was surprised... it's got the juice despite everything.
The guys who say they can smoke them on their stock 4 strokes are on crack.
Not in a drag race.

The 400 Sport/Scramblers are one of the most potent quads around and can be made to smoke most anything.

Hi all, My nephew has a '99 Sport 400. Nice quad, but last summer he blew it up (lack of proper maint. would be my guess?) anyway, Anyone know of a decent fair priced rebuilder in or close by Mpls/StP, Mn.?? Thanks

IF it needs top and bottom ends pull the engine and ship it to RCR .If it just needs a topend call RCR and get a price.
