hey guys just joined the forum, looks like there's a lot of knowledgeable folks on here! I am looking into buying a x2 700 for the g/f(wife) and I. I was wondering if 28" mudlites would fit without much rubbing and do you think that the 28s would cause a great loss in power?

 

From what the dealer told me 28" tires would rub. It would probably cause a good amount of power loss also. A 28" tire has about 12% greater circumfrance and therefore 12% greater power needs to spin it.

I have an 08 700x2 for the wife....it has 27's and a clutch kit. No rubbing. Looks great, and would definitely recommend the clutch kit over 26".

great! thanks for the info! What tires are you running? I was looking at the mudlites and 589s

I have the mudlites. I have run these for some time and also on a rhino I had. I really like them, but I have always liked the 589's. I think I'll try them next. I have a dalton clutch. I have no experience with any others, but have found through much research that they may well be the best? I'm sure there will be some debate over that! LOL!

 

the 589's last a good bit longer than the mudlites but both are excellent tires. I also think anything over a 26" put a clutch kit on. i did when I put 27s I don't regret it.

 

I love my mudlite xtr's. The 589's look like a really good tire too. I would also recommend a clutch kit if you go with a bigger tire.

 

That big of tire would not be bad if you put a clutch kit in it like a heelclicker or so on. 28" tires will clear on the rear of my 08 800 but needs wheel spacers for the front so they dont rub the tie rod ends. I have mudlite XTR's and they are 27" and I had to use 3" spacers on the front but the rear is fine. I work with a guy who has 28" mudders on his 2up 800 and again the rear is fine but the front needed 3.5" spacers. He has a heelclicker kit in his and he loves it.
