Anyone know how to do this MOD with the brake lights?

Im thinking about taking out the rear bulbs for the tail lights in my 06 Rancher 350 because I have no need from them to come on every time I brake. The problem with that is I still would like the tail lights to come on at night when I have the headlight on. Does anyone know how I can have the brake lights stay off only when braking?

If you don't mind replacing tail lights (at the least) you can just cut the brake light line.
See pic #9 in my gallery. Had it happen one more time, and that was with the brake lights. Can only imagine how much worse if would have been if they didn't know I was stopping.

Hard to imagine that having brake lights would be an issue for anybody.....but just cut the line from the switchs on the brake levers...if you must.

I would have to agree. Having brake lights doesn't hurt anything.
Also, although I'm not a lawyer, if a 2nd owner were to get in a wreck and find out that the brake lights (or some other safety feature) were deliberately disabled...
There have been times where a lead rider will realize he missed a turn and jam on the brakes suddenly, and I think the lights bring that to the attention of the following riders more quickly.

It is mainly used by my kids around our property. There has never been a time the brake light have been needed to warn anyone behind. I do want the tail lights for dark because there are times I take it on the country roads at dusk or dark and I want to be seen from the rear while one the road even though there is very little traffic. I don't want to cause any damage if I do this so cutting the line is not something I want to do. The reason I don't want the brake lights is due to the constant braking the kids do. The lights seem like they are on more than off. If I can disable them, my thinking is this would increase the life of the electrical system since the brake lights are the main user of the power on my Rancher. The starter is probably second and I don't want to start using the pull start. I like the things I buy to last as long as they can before problems occur so I think of little stupid things like this that may help.

If the brake light, even being constantly on, causes any major electrical problems, then I'd say you have more problems than the brake light.
And if I were riding at night, I'd especially want whoever was behind me to know I was slowing down.
Seems like it would be a simpler solution to teach them how to use the brakes properly.

your right its stupid, leave the brake lights alone, you give it 0 benefit by cutting the brake wires, other then having someone slam into you. you are preventing nothing

i prefer to know when people are stopin in front of me. my friend took the whole taillight out on his ltr450 and i hate ridin behind him now. i liked it when he first got it cause i knew he would start to stop. now i never know except for when i see his front end start to sink. which has lead to a lot of close calls and near misses. i wish mine had the brake sensitive or whatever instead of being on or off. i personally like it. i really like the lcd or whatever taillights on the raptors. looks good.

I'm not that familiar with your quad, but on mine(400ex) the stator is always putting out power, and the rectifier is always converting to dc and charging the battery. If your setup is the same it wouldn't put any extra strain on anything except maybe the bulbs. And I'm about to add brake lights to mine. Safer.
