First Inspection 2008 Sportsman 500 EFI
#1
Hey, guys! Well, it's that time. My service light came on today. Started blinking with the little wrench icon. I've had it for three weeks, and it has 51 hours on it. I've checked everything. Greased the fittings, all the normal stuff. Do you think it's the oil filter, or could it be an oil change? Thanks for your interest, and your comments!! Have a good one

It is set from the factory to come on at 50 hours for your first servicing. You can reset it to come on at different lengths of hours. I think I turned mine off totally. Read in your book how to reset it on the newer atvs.

yes the oil should be changed w/ the filter. the first service at a dealer is just a top off of the fluids w/ the oil change. reset the counter back to 50 for the next service. imo. p.s welcome to the forum.

If it's like my '06 there should be a break-in oil change at 1 month, then a 25 hour service to inspect everything, then a lube job and inspection at 50 hours, and the second oil change at 100 hours. When they set the reminder for 50 hours, you completely skip everything before that. I turned it off permanantly. I check the hours and miles nearly every time I ride so I don't need a reminder. If it blinks I will know that it's something else and check the codes to see what's wrong.

Funny, brother!! Haha...No I didn't think greasing the fittings would shut the service light off. If it did, though, I would know there was something seriously wrong with that service light, don't ya think!! Thanks for lookin' out, man....

its basicly just there for a reminder and differnt people use it for differnt hr settings. you can choose to set it or turn it off. but i would recommend going by what the manual says for the service intervals on fluid changes. just my .02
