Sounds like your machine is water shy. I'd let the bike dry out and apply dielectric grease (from an auto parts store) to all electrical connections, expecially the coil connections and on top of the spark plug.
I'd also take the carb off and clean it or have it properly cleaned. It doesnt take very much dirt to fool up a carb, one tiny peck.

also it didnt use to be like this?
i could go through huge mudholes and nothing would happen, just started recently

My guess would be that you still have some crud in the carb. Make sure you remove all the jets and blow them and all the passages out with B12 Chemtool or a similar, good carb cleaner, followed by compressed air.

Is it possible you have crud in the tank as well? I'd also replace the fuel filter. SOme tank designs also have a filter inside teh tank attached to the petcock. There may be crud that has plugged that too. Hoses get old and will collapse too.
Last, I'd check your gas cap vent hose to see if it will pass air. They can get blocked with crud, spiders etc. It causes you to have vapor lock... I am betting it is either crud in a circuit in the carb, or a plugged fuel filter though. Simple spray cleaner will not do the job. You have to pull the jets and clean them. If you have access to a shop that has an ultrasonic cleaner, that is the best way to clean them.

If you have a grain of sand in the carb, sometimes it gets sucked into the jet, bike runs shitty, dirt falls out bike is fine. Clean the carburator.
Same for electrical, get dielectric grease and coat every connection (I use an old toothbrush) especially the wires going to the coil, and on top of the spark plug under the plug boot. If you get water in there the bike will run crappy, then be fine if it dries out.
