2007 Polaris Ranger
#1
I posted my problem a couple of days ago and I appreciate all the help and advice I received. Heres what I just found out. I put my ranger up on jack stands so all 4 wheels were off the ground and I ran it in 2wd foward and reverse everything seemed to be working fine, but when I put it in 4wd and repeated the same process all 4 wheels turned only in reverse. In high or low foward the front wheels would not spin. Is this normal or did I just narrow down my original problem? As always any help or insight would be appreciated.

That is def NOT normal. You narrowed it down but I still don't have a clue. Is there a reverse over-ride switch like the ATVs have? We can only get reverse when the switch is held on the quads.

No their isnt any kind of reverse override like the sportsman have on them, by the way I did check the wiring going into the front differential. It seems to be alright because when I unplugged it the AWD light goes out and I lose 4wd in reverse, but when I plug it back up I have 4wd again but only in reverse

I didn't think it had an over-ride but had to ask. It sounds like it doesn't know it's in gear. The sensor switch that says what gear the transmission is in may be messed up. No idea how to fix it though. Sorry.

I guess all I can do is replace the drive belt and see if this fixes any of the problems before I break down and take it back to the polaris dealer and have them look at it. Thanks for the info guys

if your wheels move, it is not the belt. when you put the trans in low gear does the indicator show what gear your in? if it does, you have a front gearcase problem, the roll cage inside of the diff is probably broken.

did someone engage awd while the rear wheels were spinning, that is what causes the roll cage to break, it is made of plastic, this is the weak link in the awd system, designed that way to prevent more costly reapairs.

What youre saying falls in line with what everyone else is saying, I talked to a couple shops today who specialize in building and repairing large cc high performance mud racing quads, and they believe its the roller cage also. They told me to bring them the front differential and they will check it out. It is possible that the awd switch was engaged while the back wheels were turning, but it was never done intentionally. The clutch belt is problably the source of some of my other problems. I checked it out the other day and its trashed, a new one is on the way. Thanks for the help. One more thing if the roller cage was broke would that allow you to still have 4wd in reverse but not in low/high foward?
