Default what is the best chain?

I ride an 04 Raptor 660, and the o-ring chain on it is shot. I'm looking for opinions on what would be the best chain to replace it with. Should I stick with an o-ring, or no, and what would be the best route to go. I've never had to replace my chain before, so this is new to me. I ride mostly at the sand dunes, with an occasional jaunt on the trails.

Thanks for the info

Me personally I wouldn't ever have an oring chain for racing or sand dunes. You may have to replace it a little more often but they are also cheaper. I believe the raptor has the 520 chain on it. RK makes an awesome non oring chain that we run, we run about 20 races per chain, not that it is shot but we just want to make sure. Just remember also chain lube is cheap, use it alot.

an o-ring chain is the way to go. a non-o isn't worth 2 cents in my opinion. the o-rings keep the lube in and there's less friction. less friction equals more power.

Wow there is two differences of opinion. from what I have seen the orings do not keep all the sand out, hence it stays in there and grinds away. Secondly tests have proven that oring chains take more power than non oring. The vast majority of riders in our MX series do not and will not run oring chain. Thats just my 2 cents worth (ok maybe 1).

I just know what we run as racers, I'm sure o ring has a place and is good and discussions like this are beneficial to original poster. I have seen too many o ring chains after a racing in the clay, mud, sand and used a few races that will stand up on their own. DID is good we are sponsored by RK chains that is why I mentioned them and they are good chains.

yes, I definitely appreciate the discussion, and to hear as many opinions as possible, that way I can make an informed decision.

So my next question is the power loss/gain. Is there enough power loss/gain with either one to really make much of a difference, or is it so minuscule that you won't notice unless you are keeping time down to 100th of a sec...

I can't tell you exactly how loss there is but I do know that with a mini quad when they get stiff you can tell the difference. Remeber though we are talking about a low HP machine.
