Our previous oil was 0-40,now the ps4ss is 5-50. Using thicker oil or infrequent oil changes will starve top end of lubrication and I or someone else will be changing out your flattened cam!! exhaust lobes ALWAYS ground down to nothing!!IF YOU MUST use other than Polaris, Mobil 1 makes 0-40! I've changed too many cams because of wrong oil /lack of maintenance! Hope this helps your decision!

If your owner's manual says 0W-40 then you better use 0W-40. If it says 2W-50 then use 2W-50. Good oil costs a lot less than a good engine. NEVER use a thicker or thinner oil. What brand you buy is up to you, but make sure it's a full synthetic of the right weight and service grade. If your owner's manual says API certified SH oil, and you don't use SH you're just asking for trouble.
When the manual warns of SERIOUS ENGINE DAMAGE, I listen. IMO, everyone else should too, unless they can afford to constantly buy new engines. I can't, but I have enough money for oil.

i agree that using the right oil will make the engine last longer. sometimes being cheap wont give good long time results. always use the fully synth. oil. imo.
